Ahhhhh...Mince Pies

The mince pie is a great British tradition dating back to the 13th century when European crusaders brought back exotic fruits, spices and recipes from the Middle East. The mincemeat filling for the pies is not meat but a sweet, spicy mixed dried and candied fruit, peel, suet, almonds, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves cooked together. Then mixture is baked in short crust pastry cups or pies. Delicious served warm. In England it is served with brandy butter and a glass of mulled wine but you could have just a dollop of cream and a nice cup of tea..
